Waterways Ireland launched the Waterways Ireland Sponsorship Programme on Wednesday May 25th in the Waterways Ireland Visitors Centre, Dublin with representatives of the top 10 events in attendance.
The Waterways Ireland Sponsorship Programme in 2011 will support over 70 events taking place on all the navigations including the Waterways Ireland Riverfest, Waterways Ireland TriAthlone, Waterways Ireland Scarriff Harbour Festival, Waterways Ireland Phizzfest, Waterways Ireland Loughfest, Sport on the Royal Canal, Barrow 2011, Lough Allen Art & Water Festival, Family Fun Weekend on the Lower Bann and the Inter-counties Sailing Competition in the Dublin Docklands Festival.
While a display of wakeboarding by the Irish National Champion, David O’Caoimh showed the world class standard of this new sport, the attending media participated in Come and Try It canoeing and paddleboard sessions in the Grand Canal Basin.
Launching the Sponsorship Programme the Director of Marketing & Communications Martin Dennany stated “Through the Waterways Ireland Sponsorship Programme communities have engaged with their waterways in a truly active way, through festivals and events, in particular the very successful ‘Come & Try It’ sessions. Some of these events attract international attention but all are growing in a real way; delivering economic return to their communities and fulfilling the needs of these communities to engage positively with each other and their surroundings. A day on the waterways is 100% pure fun”.
The list of all 70 events is included in the Waterways Ireland What on guide, available free from shopwaterwaysireland.org or from tourism outlets all along the navigations.
