After some very useful advice and information from Rodger Hamilton, CANI’s Club Development Officer, the Sit-on-Top Touring Club was set up in March 2011 by a group of people who had enjoyed paddling together the previous year. The Club aims to provide opportunities for members to enjoy:
- sit-on-top kayak touring trips with a Club
- the social side of paddling
- the local environment and wildlife
- improving their kayaking skills
The Club is affiliated to CANI, enabling members to benefit from third party insurance, and CANI recreational paddles either free of charge or at a reduced rate.
Trips are planned for the first Wednesday and the 3rd or 4th weekend in each month. We had our first club outing on Wed 6 April at Groomsport, where 11 folks enjoyed a gentle paddle up the coast and some games in the harbour.
To our knowledge, we are the first club in the UK to cater solely and specifically for the needs of sit-on-top paddlers. At present, to keep numbers manageable, the club is limited to customers of ‘Kayaks at Mike the Bike’.
