The CANI Away Trip will explore the Ballinamore, Ballyconnel Canal along with the Shannon and Boyle Rivers System from Thursday 23rd to Sunday 26th July 2015
This recreational paddle is suitable and open to families, clubs, paddlers of all ages and abilities and can be paddled in any type of craft. So dust down your boat and come and join us on these social paddles. If you don’t have a boat you can hire an open canoe or sea kayak from CANI at a reasonable cost. Appropriate paddling kit should be brought, everyone should also be self sufficient for camping i.e.: food, stove and tent etc
All paddles are subject to weather conditions.
Meet and Trip Plan:
Start Ballinamore. Travelling west along the Ballinamore and Ballyconnel canal through St John’s Lough, back into the canal past Keshcarrigan and then finish the first day in Lough Scur.
First nights camp Lough Scur approx 12K
Coutinue along the canal passing Kilclare and through Leitrim. Continue SW into Lough Eidin for the 2nd nights camp
Second nights camp Lough Eidin approx 13K
Change direction to NW and paddle through Culimore and into Oakport lough and on to the Boyle river. Head west through Knockvicar, and into lough Key, then SW towards Boyle.
Third nights camp Lough Key approx 12K
Finnish with a short paddle from Lough Key into Boyle
Finnish Boyle 3K
The route is a mix of canals, loughs, dotted with small islands to explore and a river. The trip is suitable for open boats and sea kayaks. There will be 3 nights wild camping so participants need to bring the following.
Costs:
The cost of this trip will be as follows;
CANI Members
£35.00 per adult
£15.00 per youth
Non Members
£53.00 per adult
£25.00 per youth
The cost for Boat hire will be £10.00 to CANI Members and £15.00 for Non Members if you require Boat, Paddle, and Buoyancy Aid please note it in the additional information on the booking form.
“If you plan to take part in more than one recreation paddle why not take out recreational membership at a cost of £18 per year or family membership at a cost of £25 introductory and £5 for each additional member per year. This would be much more economical, as recreational paddles are free to all members and the cost of boat hire is at a reduced price.”
