Father’s Day -19th June 2011 will see Glenn McConnell attempting to cross the Irish Sea from the Mull of Galloway in Scotland to Bangor, Northern Ireland in his 14ft Kayak.
The aim – to raise funds for Belfast Lough Sailability (BLS) and Riding for the Disabled Association in memory of his Father Alexander McConnell who supported both these hard working charities.
The ultimate objective is to raise enough money to purchase a badly needed HAWK 20′ yacht, which will allow Sailability sailors to:-
Increase the range of sailing programmes and activities to members including local club racing and regatta participation
allow a group of disabled sailors to enjoy sailing recreationally
enable a wider catchment to be targeted including family units and mixed ability usages
provide a facility for taster sessions to under privileged groups and families
enable both disabled and able qualified volunteers to train disabled members in the skills of sailing
