Northern Ireland Open Surf Kayaking Championships

The Canoe Association of Northern Ireland’s surf kayaking league came to a finale on Saturday in big waves at Whiterocks beach, Portrush. Although the weather wasn’t kind the level of surf kayaking on display didn’t disappoint with competitors from all over Ireland throwing their boats and bodies at the waves in the hope of pulling off the spectacular!
Back in the water for the first time since winning his World title was Portrush lad Andy McClelland. As in America Andy failed to disappoint winning both the Junior long and short boat categories. He also narrowly missed out in the Men’s short boat to another local man, Jonny Bingham who also managed the double.
Podium finishes were also achieved by locals Matt Pothecary, Norman Woods and Jack Pothecary. For a full round up of results and overall league standings visit www.nisurfkayak.com . The NI surf kayak committee would like to thank Coleraine Borough Council and North Coast Leisure who sponsored the event.
