Loughs Agency are recruiting participants for waterbased training courses that will be starting in the next few weeks. We really want the last few courses to run at full capacity with full success rates!
The training is being run through Derry City and Strabane District Council and the Loughs Agency. We’re recruiting people who are not currently working or partaking in training or education and that reside in the Derry City and Strabane district council area which includes Claudy, Park and Castlederg.
The training may appeal to anglers, watersport enthusiasts, existing sport or activity coaches or someone looking to get into coaching or instruction as a new career. Many of the skills learned on these courses are transferrable.
Ultimately we are hoping to increase the number of people skilled in angling and angling coaching, canoe and kayak coaching and powerboating within the council area. We want to better utilise the natural resources on our doorstep and see people get onto the first step toward a career in watersports.
All three courses have proven to be good fun for the participants that have completed them over the last two years. Several graduates that have gained employment in water sports after completion. There has also been quite a few of the participants that have stepped outside their comfort zone and improved their self-belief when it comes to training and education. So we’re not just offering training that can lead to employment but training that is a good experience for those who take part.
