This year’s Oyster Festival will see the introduction of a new exciting team event, The Iron Oyster Challenge. It will take place on the evening of Thursday the 2nd of September in Hillsborough Forest Park. Registration will open at 5.30 PM; the event will start at 6.10 PM sharp. Prize giving will be at 9.00 PM, followed by a social event. The new event will consist of the following stages:
Stage 1 – An Orienteering-style event around Hillsborough Forest on a course provided by the Lagan Valley Orienteering Club. This will include finding a hidden cache of “Guinness and Oysters” (The “Guinness Keg and Oyster Container” will be mock-ups – not the real thing)
Stage 2 – The Teams have to transport the “Guinness and Oysters” across Hillsborough Lake to the grassed area in front of the Fort in Canadian Canoes provided by Lisburn City Paddlers and Mobile Team Adventure, who will also provide full safety equipment and boats.
Stage 3 – Once landed the Teams will have to move the “Guinness and Oysters” over a series of physical obstacles on the grassed area in front of the Fort.
Stage 4 – Once clear of the Obstacle Course there will be a best effort team run to deliver the “Guinness and Oysters” to a selected location.
To be eligible for entry teams must raise a minimum of £150.00 for SAM, which is the Festival Charity. Teams will consist of 3 members and a non-competing team manager. Teams can be mixed or all male or all female. All participants must be over 18 years of age and physically fit. Recommended dress is orienteering-style clothing and trainers/hiking boots. A change of warm clothing should be brought for use after the event. Entry money (£150.00) is to be paid by Cheque, made Payable To: Hillsborough Oyster Festival and handed in by the Team Manager at the pre-event briefing.

Entries are invited from sports clubs, sports organisations, associations, blue Light services and private businesses and the public sector to what promises to be an excellent team building event. A mandatory team managers briefing will be held in the Village Community Centre on Tuesday the 31st of August at 7.30 PM during which the draw for start timings will take place.
