Getting Started

Canoeing is an exciting sport and for those competitively minded, canoeing really comes into its own. For those who enjoy the thrill of competing there is the chance to take part in many competitions, starting in your local area and progressing all the way up to representing your country and even going to the Olympic or Paralympic Games.

For many people, High-Performance Canoeing soon becomes an all-consuming hobby.

Ready to get into Performance?

There are two Olympic disciplines within canoeing; Canoe Slalom and Canoe Sprint, and one Paralympic discipline; Paracanoe. CANI have athletes competing at a world level in all three of these disciplines representing both Ireland and the UK.

A list of clubs and groups that are currently running programs focussed on Performance can be found below.

Athlete Representation.

Please click here to view our Athlete Representation document. This document has been produced to inform athletes, coaches, officials, and parents within Northern Ireland of their choices in relation to the unique dual representation position and outlines the choices Norther Ireland athletes have when they are ready to make representative decisions. This is intended as a guidance and signposting document and should not be used as the final source of information before making a key decision in this area.
