Rescue and Emergency Care so meets the criteria for NGB awards such as
Paddlesport Instructor/Leader and Coach award. This course needs to be
confirmed 2 weeks in advance or it won’t run. Please register for this and we
will hold a waiting list.

EP Staff Training

This course is for our coaches,
leaders and volunteers and is the compulsory yearly training date for EP
staff. There are trainings in March (sat 30th) and May (evenings,
TBC). The programme will cover governance, safety, coach and leader
responsibilities and club updates. It will take a relaxed and fun format with
some water time to polish up skills and games with aims. This is also an
opportunity for coaches to feedback on their sessions and shape how the club
runs.

No cost for this volunteer
update, travel expenses may be claimed, food will be provided!

Like our “Love to Paddle” trips,
these will be enjoyable, social paddles for those that like to get their
exercise on the water, while taking in the great views from our blueways. Run
by our experienced, qualified and friendly coaches, these will be guided
trips with coaching as needed, including advice on efficient paddling and
paddling for fitness. Suitable for those who have completed a “Learn to
Paddle” course or have already done a little bit of paddling. All paddling
equipment (except clothes/wetsuits) provided.

£9 discounted price for each trip, £17 for
two family members, £ 25 for three.

Open to all (not just club members)

This is a development programme
for young people (14+) and adults, who enjoy their paddling and want to build
skills and experience, so they can help on club activities, log volunteering
hours (UCAS points) and gain internationally recognised vocational canoeing
qualifications.

 

Including skills, safety and
rescue coaching towards personal paddling awards and the prerequisites for
internationally recognised leadership and coaching qualifications and an
introduction to leadership and coaching theory and practice. Coached and
mentored by our well qualified and experienced coach educator.

 

Coaching qualification
pre-requisite courses; FSRT (safety and rescue), First Aid, Safeguarding, etc
will be organized to suit the availability of the participants in preparation
for Paddlesport Leader and Instructor courses in the Autumn.

 

We have a small cohort already
working towards their first qualifications and we welcome more people to join

out paddling for the first time – no experience necessary. Great for building
confidence in an enjoyable step by step way, guided by our experienced,

We aim to help you build a strong foundation of fundamental kayaking skills
that will enable you to enjoy paddling and improving as you move on to the
river, sea, surf, polo and more!

Progressive skills coaching in kayak (mostly)
and canoes, working on flat water skills, preventing capsize, supports,
rolling and rescues. This course leads on from the pool-based Monday night
course – developing skills learnt in the pool environment and taking them
outside into the real world allowing you to feel really confent and fully
enjoy or lake, sea and river trips.

Stand Up Paddleboarding
(SUP)

Take part in the fast-growing sport of SUP.
SUPer fun and a great way to exercise and get out on the water and take in

Polo is super fun team
sport, like basketball in kayaks!
It’s a fantastic way to improve your confidence and skills and is coached in

Coached by our friendly, experienced and qualified coaches, in a safe and
progressive way using a range of “games with aims” – you’ll be having so much
fun, you won’t even know you are learning 🙂
Including Paddle-Power coaching and certificates (small fee for books if they
don’t already have them).
Best for children and parents with some experience already, e.g.  having
completed a “Learn to Paddle” course or similar or more. Individual children
and adults welcome.  All paddling kit (except clothing/wetsuits) can be

Surf/Sea Skills Day

This is open to all paddlers, EP
members, CANI and other club members and non-members alike.

 

A fun and progressive intro to
surf/sea, suitable for first time surf/sea paddlers and those wishing to
progress their skills on easy “moderate water”.

 

 

Participants should be
comfortable on flat water and wearing a spraydeck and have winter paddling
kit. We can supply, kayak, deck, paddles, helmet and buoyancy aid.

These are “peer paddles” for our coaches,
leaders and competent volunteers, allowing our hard-working helpers regular
access to club kit and enjoyable social paddles on the lake, under their own
steam.

 

This is a trial programme and we
hope to expand to more club members who are paddling at this level and to
more venues (rivers, etc) as time goes on.

 

Session plans, logistics,
designated competent leaders and suitable group members will be decided on a
week by week basis and there will be a trail, token fee of £2 per trip to get
things going.

 

In the short term, these will be
organized through the coaches and leaders FB groups.

Open to all (not just club members)

Paddlesport Instructor is the
coaching award for introducing new paddlers to the sport. The coaching and
assessment give you a foundation in the essential skills, coaching and rescue
techniques required to run fun and safe games and skill sessions for
beginners.

 

This is a two day, 9 to5 course
and will be run over 2 consecutive Saturdays in April, 20th and 27th.

Two skills top-up sessions will
also be offered on Wed evenings, 10th and 17th, 6:30 pm

Foundation Safety and Resue

FURTHER INFORMATION

Courses open to the public
All our courses are open to the public. “Learn to Paddle” courses are
especially geared towards beginners and those wanting to join the club. Other
courses require some previous experience, either just a little (so we know
you are ok to go on an easy journey) or a bit more for; sea, surf and river
sessions for example. Pre-requisites (if any) are listed in the course
information above. If you want help choosing the right course for you, get in
touch with us at the contact info below.

 

Membership

Non-members can paddle with the
club up to four times before membership is required (for insurance purposes).
For beginners on one of our “Learn to Paddle” courses, discounted membership
is included in the course price.  For those with previous paddling
experience wanting to join in on other activities on a regular basis, please
contact

membership info and prices.

Courses to order
If you don’t see something that suits your needs in our programme, whether
you are a member or a non-member, looking to try paddling for the first time,
wanting a one-off fun session for a group, or you are aiming to build the
