Sunday 20 June 2010 Shaws Bridge Belfast

Open to CANI Members, CANI Club Members, Scouts

Event Fee £3 for each event

10.30 am- Introductory/Practice Event

Novice Participants should expect to get wet, and should provide their own personal equipment, buoyancy aid, etc. and bring warm clothes
Under 18s should be accompanied by an adult (not necessarily on the water!).

Skill level: to enjoy the experience paddlers should be capable of paddling a kayak in a straight line, perform a reasonable support stroke, and have capsized at some time.

The aim is to encourage participation in any of the racing disciplines:

Canoe Racing is an Olympic Sport, with racing on flat water in various fast kayaks and canoes over relatively short ‘Sprint’ distances- 250m-1000m in lanes

Marathon Racing uses similar craft over longer distances- 3miles to 100+miles!

Whitewater Racing uses slightly more stable, high volume craft to race down rivers- usually Grade 3+ for about 20-30 minutes

This session offers the chance to experience the different types of kayak (sorry no ‘canadians’ this time) used for these disciplines- on flat water. K1, K2, WW Racer, Wavehopper will be available.

1.30pm Sprint Race entries close

The various individual racing boats will be available, or competitors may use their own boat, to time trial against other participants over a course of between 500 and 800m. All competitors will then be seeded on basis of times into sprint heats for final ranking for CANI League points.
A K2 event may be held if there is time and sufficient boats and crews

Please let me know if you are coming so we can judge how many boats to bring!
