2016-17 Club of the Year – Erne Paddlers

CANI Recognition Awards 2016-17

Erne Paddlers was presented with the trophy for Club of the Year as part of CANI’s Recognition Awards 2016-17 during a club session by Club and Coaching Officer, Rodger Hamilton.

The club has provided an extensive programme for its members and also to public outside the club to encourage new paddlers to the sport. They cater for all ages with a thriving junior section as well as having run courses for the over 50’s. There have been opportunities for girls and women to join their ‘Won’ programme to develop confidence and paddle with like minded people. Erne have also catered for paddlers for the Special Olympics.

Erne Paddlers put on regular courses to build skills such as rolling and FRST as well as encouraging their members to work through the UKCC star award system.

With such an extensive programme, they also have supported coaches from within the club to maintain and build on their coaching qualifications.

There is opportunity within Erne to try most disciplines including canoe, kayak and sea kayak as well as performance disciplines of surf, sprint and polo skills. This year they have developed sessions for the up and coming discipline of Stand-up Paddleboarding.
This is a busy and exciting club, which is always thinking of new ways to encourage new and develop current members.

Trevor Foster,  secretary of Erne paddlers, said “”This award is testament to the commitment of the club coaches and volunteers to provide the many sessions and hosting of paddling events that promote the sport.  We would like to thank CANI for its support to the club in the past year and giving this recognition that makes every member proud to receive it.”

We look forward to seeing what the club has on offer for 2017/2018. Congratulations!
