The British Transplant Games are coming to Northern Ireland

These will be the 34th Games and are being held in Northern Ireland on 4th – 7th August 2011. The Games are organised by Transplant Sport UK (TSUK), with the aims of demonstrating to the public the benefits of organ transplantation, encourage transplantees to live life to the full with exercise and social interaction, and to promote awareness of the desperate need for more organ donors.

Volunteer Now has been asked to coordinate the volunteers for the event, including selection, and we will be your main link before and during the Games. We are keen that as a volunteer you have a great experience at the Games and are recognised for the valuable contribution you make. Due to the high level of interest shown in volunteering at the Games we may have to recruit volunteers via a selection process.

The benefits include:
Being a valued part of a national sporting event
A T-shirt to wear at the event and keep afterwards
The opportunity to, when not volunteering, be a spectator at the Games
Receiving a volunteer certificate
Free entry to the Donor Run (if you are not on the volunteering rota for that time)
The opportunity to include any completed volunteer hours towards volunteer programmes such as Event Management for Volunteers, Millennium Volunteers, GoldMark, Duke of Edinburgh etc.

All selected volunteers will be required to:
Attend an orientation training event prior to the event (approximately 2 hours)
Undertake an Access NI check at Enhanced Disclosure Level
Be 16 years old by 01 June 2011

The Games will have a variety of sites across Northern Ireland:
Thursday 04 August: Belfast City Hall
Friday 05 August: Queens Physical Education Centre (PEC)
Saturday 06 August: Lisburn Leisureplex / Lisburn Racquets Club
Sunday 07 August: Mary Peters Track

The main event will be taking place between Thursday 4th August and Sunday 7th August. However we will need volunteers to help before and after the Games therefore please indicate on your application form if you are available on the allocated days.

Thanks again for your interest, if you can get involved and wish to apply to volunteer at the Games, the closing date for applications is Wednesday 01 June 2011. The application form and all the relevant role descriptions are attached and can also be found at: http://www.volunteernow.co.uk/volunteering/volunteering-and-2012-sports/latest-news/volunteer-at-the-british-transplant-games/volunteer-at-the-british-transplant-games

Kindest regards,
