Success at World Canoe Sprint Championships

Two Northern Ireland Athletes represented Team GB at the World Canoe Sprint Championships in the Czech Republic on the 23rd – 27th August.

Jonny Young took his first and the first Olympic class (ICF) world championship medal for a Northern Ireland Athlete to win the VL3 men’s final. The next day Jonny produced another amazing result and came third in the KL3 200 meters.

Afton Fitzhhenry produced an amazing result to come 5th in the B final of the C2W 500 class with her partner Beth Gill.

 Both athletes are full-time athletes with team GB and are on track for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
To develop future athletes CANI is setting up a fast track programme for females which will be based at the Belfast Boat club. More details to follow shortly.
