Skills, Coaching and Leadership Matters Conference

 

The event will take place over the weekend of Friday 9th to Sunday 11th March 2018 at Share Holiday Village. There will be a range of sessions and trips on offer to meet the needs, interests and skill levels of all paddlers. As well as this, there will be many opportunities for coaches and leaders to refresh their knowledge of best practice within their field. These sessions will be delivered by a team of inspirational, expert coaches from across Ireland and the UK, who are specialists within their disciplines.

Early booking prize.

Anyone who books before Friday 2nd February, will go into a draw for the following prize worth £200.00. On Monday 5th February CANI will complete the draw.

Darren Joy  -The owner and head coach of Fluidskills, A full time British Canoeing Level 5 Coach the highest award for Coaching.

The twenty years of experience under his boat started from white water and competeing for Great Britain in surf kayaks. Darren has spent many summers in Europe and USA learning the rivers , Coaching and guiding groups in white water,surf and sea.

kayak or canoe Darren is happy in all environments and this shows in his Coaching, training and assessments.

Darren also is a home nation trainer for British Canoeing for safety and rescue and leadership awards. This gives him the opportunity to train the trainers with the knowledge and experience he has gained over many years of doing the job for real.

Darren will be at the conference throughout the whole weekend, to share his experiences and knowledge.

 

Tom Sibbald – The owner of Canoe Coaching will be joining us at the conference for the weekend. Tom is a Level 5 Coach who specialises in open canoeing and will be there to share his experiences and knowledge of this craft.

” Tom says “the more I am involved with coaching and learning the more I am reminded that kids are the true learning machines of the human species. For them learning seems to be an accidental outcome of playing, having fun, experimenting and making mistakes. Sounds fun – I wonder if we can do the same!”

 

Programme outline

Friday Evening

The conference starts with registration from 5.00 – 8.00pm. The formal opening of the conference will be 8.30pm, followed by presenetation from key note and an evening social.

Saturday – There will be a mix of full and half day sessions

Saturday morning registration will be open from 7.30 – 8.30am. After this everyone will meet their coaches at 9.00am for a 9.30am departure to your Saturday session/s.

Saturday evening will be back at the Share Holiday Village for evening meal at 6.00pm and presentation by key note speaker will be at 7.30pm. Then social in the bar afterwards.

Sunday – There will be a mix of full and half day sessions

Sunday morning registration will be open from 7.30 – 8.30am. After this everyone will meet their coaches at 9.00am for a 9.30am departure to your Saturday session/s.

The conference will come to a close at 4.30pm at Share Holiday Village or you may leave directly from your session venue if easier.

Novice Trip – All the novice trips will be an introduction to the moderate water environment, these trips will be for paddlers looking to develop their paddling.

Practicing Trip – All the practicing trips will be in the moderate water environment, these trips will be for paddlers looking to develop and progress their moderate water skills.

Skilled Trip – All the advanced trips will be in the advanced water environment, these trips will be for paddlers who have their moderate skill dialled and are now looking at developing and progressing their advanced water skills.

Coach and Safety Update – Over the 2 days coaches and leaders will be able to gain recognition for coach update by attending both a coach and safety update session. Costs

  • £60.00 – Full Board and Conference Adult/Junior/Student – for CANI Member or Equivalent Homenation Membership
  • £85.00 – Full Board, Conference and first year CANI membership Adult/Junior/Student – for Non Member
  • £40.00 – One day of conference and lunch Adult/Junior/Student – for CANI Member or Equivalent Homenation Membership
  • £65.00 – One day of conference, lunch and first year CANI membership Adult/Junior/Student – for Non Member

‘CANI Member’ means Full or Affiliated member of CANI/Canoe Ireland or Equivalent Home Nation/British Canoeing Membership.

Full board includes;

  • Friday and Saturday night accommodation
  • Saturday – Breakfast, packed lunch and evening meal
  • Sunday – Breakfast and packed lunch

Young people attending the conference

We welcome the participation of under-18’s at the event. To avoid any problems we must insist that under-18’s are accompanied by a parent/guardian at the event. For participants aged 16 & 17 their Parents/Guardians do not need to attend the same water sessions as their children on the event but they do need to be responsible for them throughout the event. Participants who are under the age of 16, must be accompanied by an adult who will take charge of them and look after them throughout the session.

Equipment

You will need to bring your own paddling equipment for the event; however there may be demo boats available.

I-Canoe will be brining a a range demo boats to the event.
