This World Cup in Czech capital Prague sees the introduction of a new qualifying system to this year’s World Cups and World Championships. In a change from previous seasons some of the semi final ‘quota’ will progress directly to the semi-final based on their 1st run score in the heats. With this system in place there is no room for error and you have to put it all on the line for every run.
In the K1 Women Category where 20 boats go through to the semi-final automatically Hannah Craig finished in 34th position with a time of 100.9+2. In her second run where the top 10 progress through to the semi-final Hannah came agonisingly close finishing in 13th position with a time of 97.94+6.
In the K1 Men Category where 30 boats go through to the semi-final automatically Cade Ryan and Elliot Davidson finished 64th and 84th respectively with times of 96.60+2 and 97.47+54. In the second runs where the top 10 progress through to the semi-final Cade put in a big effort and took almost 8 seconds off his first run time but missed out finishing in 26th with a time of 88.54+2. After the disappointment of a 50 second penalty on the first run Elliot struggled to find form and with five touches pushing him down the result list he ended up finishing in 50th with a time of 102.23+10.
This is the first race of the 2015 World Cup Series and we wish all the athlete’s good luck for the remaining races on the circuit.
