Friday 25th August to 28th August – Explore the Shannon Blueway

 

This recreational paddle is suitable and open to families, clubs, paddlers of all ages and abilities and can be paddled in open canoe or sea kayak. Why not dust down your boat and come and join us?  If you don’t have a boat you can hire an open canoe from CANI at a reasonable cost.  Appropriate paddling kit should be brought and everyone should also be self sufficient for camping i.e: food, stove and tent etc

Meet and Trip Plan: 

Day 1 – Meet at Carthy’s bar in Leitrim Village. Organise shuttle to Rooskey. Paddle along the Ballyconnel can into the Shannon then into Lough Eidin for our first nights camp, approx 6K

Day 2 – Will start by returning back to the Shannon and continuing south through Carrick-on Shannon, through Lough Corry to find a camp before the Jamestown canal.  approx 9-11K

Day 3 – Continue on through the Jamestown Canal to Lough Nanoge. From here the paddle will continue south into Lough Tap, Lough Boderg and Lough Bofin for the third nights camp north of Rabbit Island. – approx 11- 13K

Day 4 – Will finish with a short paddle from Rabbit Island into Roosky. Finish point Roosky – approx 4K

The route is a mix of Canals, Loughs, and Rivers dotted with small islands to explore. The trip is suitable for open boats and sea kayaks.

 

There will be 3 nights wild camping so participants need to bring the following:

  • Waterproofs

  • Suitable footwear for in and out of the boat

  • Canoe / sea boat
  • Buoyancy aid
  • Paddles
  • Bailer / sponge

Costs:

The cost of this trip will be as follows…

CANI Members

£35.00 per adult

£15.00 per youth

 Non Members

£53.00 per adult

£25.00 per youth

The cost for Boat hire will be £10.00 to CANI Members and £15.00 for Non Members if you require Boat, Paddle, and Buoyancy Aid please note it in the additional information on the booking form.

“If you plan to take part in more than one recreation paddle why not take out recreational membership at a cost of £18 per year or family membership at a cost of £25 introductory and £5 for each additional member per year.  This would be much more economical, as recreational paddles are free to all members and the cost of boat hire is at a reduced price.” 

This trip and equipment must be booked before 5.30pm Friday 22nd July. You will receive an email on Wednesday 26th July with final details of trip.
