National Trust

We are planning another project day for Salt Island for Saturday 11th July. Our last few visits have been very productive and we have achieved some great results. Hopefully we can keep this up with another good day (fingers crossed for better weather than last time). We will continue our programme of maintenance by repairing some more dry stone walls, paths and fencing. We hope to erect a new gate/style and construct a basic earth toilet for campers to use at the north side of the island. We will finish with our usual litter collection from the shore.

We will meet at the Killyleagh Yacht club at 10am. Due to recent security incidents, the Yacht club has asked us to meet outside of the gates and only walk through the club once we are all together. If you arrive early, please respect this request. You are welcome to paddle across under your own steam or take a lift on the National Trust boat. There will be a group of scouts staying at the bothy over the weekend so we will not be able to stay overnight ourselves (unless you camp at the north side). We will, however, still be able to use the toilets etc. Please bring a packed lunch and suitable outdoor clothing. Wellingtons are useful for getting on and off the boat in shallow water.

Everyone is more than welcome to come along and lend a hand on the day. Please spread the word amongst your friends / clubs and feel free to post any relevant information on your club websites. If you would like any further information, please contact Craig McCoy on 07776462537.
