Canoe Intervarsities was a three-day event consisting of white water, slalom, freestyle, canoe polo and long distance. With Just under 400 Students competing with 15 Universities, competition was keen between all the competitors and universities. Not only was the weekend extremely competitive with long held rivalries, but also an extremely sociable event where many long term friendships were forged. There was a fantastic atmosphere and it was without a doubt the main event in the university kayaking clubs’ calendar.
This Year the event was hosted by Ulster University and was based around Belfast. The Slalom & Freestyle event was held at Shaws Bridge with 90 competitors, the White Water event was held at the River Roe (Dogs Leap) with 60 competitor, the Polo event was held at Knockbracken Reservoir with 150 competitors and the Long distance event was held on the Lower Lagan (Belfast)
The overall results came down to the final event, with UL wining overall for the 8th year in a row followed with a joint 2nd between Trinity and UCD.
CANI would like to congratulate Ulster University on organising and running such an excellent event.
