Grants for athletes

Athletes can now apply for funding for up to £1,000 through our Support for Sport – Support for Individuals grant.

Belfast City are offering financial assistance of up to £1,000 to support talented athletes who are committed to their chosen sports. The financial support will help athletes realise their full potential on the international stage. Our grants will assist athletes towards expenses for preparation, training and competition recognised by sports governing bodies .

The grant aid will help pay for personal expenses, such as travelling abroad to train, and for participation in governing body approved competitions outside Northern Ireland.

Athletes receiving Sport Northern Ireland’s Athlete Investment Programme (AIP) grant or an award from the Mary Peters Trust, will not be considered for funding.

· Governing bodies must complete the application form on your behalf.

· Athletes must be a resident of the Belfast City Council area or represent a sports club in Belfast

· Athletes must currently be on Governing Body High Performance Squads or equivalent in an Olympic, Paralympic or Commonwealth Sport.

· Applications can be made for individuals competing in team sports that meet the recognised governing body criteria.

Applications close on Wednesday 8 January 2014 at 12 Noon.

Please note these applications are for funding for the new financial year from April 2014 onwards.
