This year CANI organised 2 Turkey and Pudding Paddles along with 2 clubs, one paddle was on the Lower Bann which was delivered by County Antrim Paddlesports and the other was on the Newry Canal delivered by Newry and Mourne Sea Kayak and Canoe Club. Over the 2 paddles 80 people took to the water to burn of some of that festive food. It was a pleasant day at both venues slightly cool but with some sunshine.
The festive paddle on the Lower Bann started of at Newferry and paddled up to Church Island on the beautiful Lough Beg. Everyone enjoyed some hot drinks and cookies, and had a chance to explore the old church ruins before heading back to Newferry with the help of the wind and flow in their favour.
The Turkey and Pudding Paddle on the Newry Canal started off on the middle bank just facing the Quay’s. From here we paddled down to the Lough gates at Carlingford Lough for a pleasant lunch stop where there was many festive treats to be had. The return journey was blessed with a slight breeze to give that added assistance, which resulted in a pleasurable paddle.
Over both the paddles it was great to see so many new people, families and young people enjoy their day on the water.
CANI would like to thank both County Antrim Paddlesports and Newry and Mourne Sea Kayak and Canoe Club, for all their hard work on the paddles.
The dates for the 2017 Recreational Paddles, will be announced soon on the CANI website.
