Belfast Junior Paddlers Project – Pool Course

Belfast Junior Paddlers Project has been established to open up the opportunity for more young people in the Greater Belfast Area to get involved in paddlesport.

Dear Parent/Guardian

There are a number of great canoe and kayak clubs in Northern Ireland, many specialising in particular paddlesport disciplines such as sea kayaking, white water, freestyle, surf and slalom.

Some clubs have found it difficult to get sufficient coaching resources to manage young people, and other clubs have insufficient resources in terms of boats and equipment to introduce them to the sport.

Belfast Junior Paddlers Project has been established to open up the opportunity for more young people in the Greater Belfast Area to get involved in paddlesport.

It is our intention to introduce young people (from the age of 8 to 16) to various aspects of paddlesport with occasional river, sea, surf and recreational trips. We will also encourage them to enter paddlesport competitions and get involved with local clubs.

This is a great opportunity to introduce your kids to an exciting, healthy, out-door activity. It is also a great way to achieve activity and expedition requirements for schemes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

We are commencing the scheme with coaching sessions in Olympia Swimming Pool, Boucher Road, Belfast, for the Winter Months. The sessions will commence on Tuesday 11th January at 20.30 for 1 hour, and will cost £31.20 for an 8 week session.

Please express your interest in the scheme by e-mailing Ian Morrow at ian.morrow@hotmail.co.uk

The project is supported by the Canoe Association of Northern Ireland (CANI) and Belfast Activity Centre (BAC).
